The Career Academy is a curated library of Professional Certificates offering industry on-demand skills. The leading authors of these certificates include Google, Meta, IBM, and many more.
Our partnership with Coursera allows free access to the Career Academy to all UT Dallas students, faculty, and staff.
The Professional Certificates include many on-demand industry skills, such as Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Project Management, etc. Professional Certificates average between 6 - 10 courses each with most including capstone projects or certification exam prep courses (as available).
All professional certificates require no prior knowledge and start at a beginner level.
Faculty can choose between embedding stand-alone courses (ex. Introduction to Data) or the whole Professional Certificate (ex. IBM's Data Analyst). Embedding Courses may be more beneficial to briefly introduce students to a topic, while assigning a whole certificate would ensure the students grasp a more robust understanding of the subject.
The professional certificates average from 6-10 courses. However, these courses' structures closer resemble chapters of textbooks and can be completed significantly sooner than the estimated time found on the Coursera website. Some students finish the entire Professional Certificates in as little as a couple of weeks (depending on their academic responsibilities).
Some Professional Certificates provide the required study materials for industry recognized certificate exams (ex. CompTIA). Our partnership offers free access to the professional certificates only. Any costs related to the exams or additional study materials are not covered by UTD.
Coursera promotional materials may promote content housed under their subscription service, Coursera Plus. Our partnership does not offer access to Coursera Plus. Anyone interested in these materials may purchase them directly from Coursera.
